As of this morning, potential Tropical Cyclone One continues to make its way past the Yucatan peninsula and towards South Florida.
The storm is producing 40 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph but continues to lack a low-level center. Since the hurricane hunters cannot find a well-developed center of circulation, the storm has not formed into a tropical storm and will retain the name Potential Tropical Cyclone One.
The storm is moving over warm and somewhat deep ocean waters, but wind shear will act as a deterrent from significant strength despite this favorable interaction. Still, the storm is expected to eventually consolidate a closed center and be deemed a Tropical Storm before making landfall on Saturday in South Florida.
