Man charged after woman found with hatchet in her head

St. Petersburg, FL -  A Florida man's been arrested after deputies found a victim with a hatchet protruding from her head.

40-year-old Michel Dougherty was arrested on a felony charge of attempted second degree murder.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the area of 24th Street North in St. Petersburg where they found the victim with a hatchet in her head.,

The 56-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

The suspect, identified as Dougherty, fled the scene prior to the deputies arrival.

Dougherty was taken into custody after being pulled over by an Alachua County deputy around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

He was taken to the Alachua County Jail, but will be transported to the Pinellas County Jail at a later date.

Donna Voye, who said the victim is her sister, posted a photo on Facebook identifying the victim as Lisa Rogers Eaton.

In the post, Voye said her family is in Florida to say their final goodbyes as doctors have learned Eaton "has no brain waves and will have no quality of life."

An investigation is ongoing.
