With Israel under attack and in the headlines, we've learned that a pro-Israel Republican killed himself in an attempted murder-suicide.

The woman shot by 72-year old Steven Alembik survived the incident which happened outside a Delray Beach Burger Fi last week.

In 2017, Alembik made headlines when he chose to move a pro-Israel event to Mar-a-Lago as others were moving their events out. He spoke about Donald Trump's support for Israel at the time.

"The people of Israel are extremely gratified that he is President because they know that he has their back. There isn't so much as a question about it."

Alembik donated a reported $200,000 to Trump, Governor DeSantis and Senator Rick Scott, among others, over the years.

In an interview with the Florida News Network back in 2017, Joel Malkin asked Alembik what made him decide to move the event he was organizing from one venue to Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club and he said simply that it's "all about Israel" and that the then-president is a "strong supporter of Israel."

A large number of charities that had events scheduled for Mar-a-Lago, pulled those events after Trump's comments following a deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The president said there were "many fine people" on both sides, then clarified that he was not referring to neo-Nazis and white nationalists.

No motive has been given to the shooting and authorities aren't releasing the name of the victim due to Marsy's Law.

Alembik, in 2018, made national headlines when he tweeted a racist remark about former President Obama. He later said he regretted the comment, which resulted in some candidates and political action committees for candidates giving back money he had donated. In Scott's case, he donated an $1,100 contribution from Alembik to charity.
