Man turns himself in six months after attacking a seagull with a shovel

MARCO ISLAND, FL - A man turned himself on charges he attacked a seagull with a shovel at a South Florida beach in November of 2021.

According to Marco Island Police, the man hit the seagull with a shovel and fled the scene before police arrived.

30-year-old Paul Flaucher turned himself in to the Collier County jail on Wednesday, six months after the incident happened.

Witnesses told police that on November 5th, a group with Flaucher was being unruly and luring the birds in with food while the 30-year-old was swinging a shovel at the animals.

Flaucher allegedly hit two birds, leaving one unable to fly.

Police say Flaucher picked up the bird, pulled apart its wings, and took pictures with it, before throwing it.

Investigators say the injured seagull had to be euthanized following the attack.
